Green is effectively small-time―less like Fassbender and more like Sam Worthington, in that regard.

Alas, unlike Fassbender, Green's the kind of actor who seldom lands larger roles and the few he has never allowed him make it big.

To be fair, he performed solidly in James Franco's As I Lay Dying (2013) but the movie itself was lackluster, desultory.īetween the two arguably-decent movies Green's starred in, the only one he really owns is The Invitation I couldn't imagine that movie without him, anymore than I could Prometheus without Michael Fassbender (who, in the performance of a lifetime, positively outshined everyone, including Green).

The reason is, he's great in the show and I'm glad it's been so long since I've seen him do well in anything good―mainly Prometheus (2012) and The Invitation (2015). Here, though, I wanted to focus on Logan Marshall-Green, and small actors like him who, at times can feel rather one-note. The whole eerie debacle contained echoes of the chilly female assassin, Mathilde, played by Thekla Reuten in Anton Corbijn's The American (2010). Indeed, it was hypnotic and strangely addictive to watch her saunter in sing-song fashion through the hilltops, before calmly assembling a rifle and using it to kickstart a riot by shooting at both sides during a Mexican standoff. And although I'm not familiar with Melinda Page Hamilton, her frigid role as the psychotic government agent, Connie Nunn, is also good fun. For example, Christopher Heyerdahl delivers a similar level of alien tallness and wide-eyed intensity as seen in Hell on Wheels (2011). Right now, I'm about halfway through, and wanted to write an article about Logan Marshall-Green, who stars in it―and on smaller character actors, in general.Įveryone in Tony Tost's Damnation is reliable. I'll review the entire show when I've finished watching it.

He’s probably one of the better underrated actors in Hollywood at this time.Right now, I'm in the middle of watching the excellent (so far) Netflix original miniseries, Damnation (2017). In any case he’s tended to split his time between the two and still does apparently. This might have had something to do with his parents being such a big influence on his life or it could have been that the draw of the stage was stronger than that of films. His intention as an actor was to be onstage more often. After a second glance it wouldn’t be much of a comparison but from a single glance it might be possible, especially when Hardy slims down for a role and isn’t as bulky as he’s been in the past.ġ. It’s not everyone that can mistaken for Tom Hardy and he’s kind of flattered really since he’d love to be like the guy. He gets mistaken for Tom Hardy occasionally. Honestly it seems like he might have made the wise choice.Ģ. He’s a big Met’s fan, so that’s what prompted him to think about a position in sportscasting, but obviously that ship sailed a long time ago when he decided to take the stage instead.

He also wanted to be a Mello Yellow truck driver but those were likely the dreams of a young kid or a younger man and not something that ever really came to fruition. He had dreams of being a baseball announcer. He’s become the product of two supportive parents that have been in Drama for quite a while.ģ. Some people might rebel and decide to go their own way but Logan opted for going with the easier route and following in his parents’ footsteps, in a way. It’s not a foregone conclusion but when both of your parents are proficient at something there’s a good chance that you might be going into the same field as you get older. Both of his parents are Drama instructors. So he wasn’t there the whole time, but it was long enough to make a serious impact in the movie.Ĥ. He essentially became the first experiment of David’s when he was infected with what David took from the engineers’ ship. His role as Charlie Holloway was supposedly one of the more important roles considering that he made a lot of the promos, but really his character didn’t last the whole way through the movie. His acting talent is great enough that he can skip between the two and not lose his place, but it sounds like he’d rather be in theater more often.ĥ. As of now he’s still kind of a middle of the road man when it comes to his career on film and on stage, but he’s more of a known commodity on both since he’s been made into a public figure.

He’s been in a few minor productions but he’s also managed to stick to where he wanted to be in the first place, on the stage. You might have seen Logan Marshall-Green a time or two before he hit the movies in a big way.
